Mandatory Player Homework Assignment
Everyone has been emailed a mandatory homework assignment that is due before practice on Friday, March 1st. It is a self-evaluation form to be completed by players. To convey how important we feel this is for player development, players may be held out of practice on Friday if they do not return the form on time.

Jr. Monarchs President's Weekend Tourney
So, we're going a little flip mode today... Coach is calling for a change and Emily is up to the challenge of writing a post on this past weekend. As the team social coordinator this weekend, we had a lot in store for the boys including the 4 round robin games, team dinners, tubing, and lots of knee hockey. To get it started, here's a quick recap of what it was like to be spectator-fan of the '00 AAA Boston Jr. Terriers for the last 72 hours...
Friday afternoon the boys got together in Hooksett, NH and started the tournament off right. A 3-1 win against the tournament host. While the score was close, The boys dominated and even fought through hockey tournament-itis and thoughts of knee hockey dancing in their heads. The Friday team event was a team and parent meeting which consisted of a video session, lots of pizza, and a knee hockey tournament. The boys seemed to grasp Coach Kevin's and Coach Larry's video session, while the moms organized the dinner. Papa Gino's pizza (you must try the mac-n-cheese pizza), Swedish fish, and Gatorade were downed in minutes, and then the great divide happened. Half the room was a pint size knee hockey rink, and the other was a parent "meeting." A great night was had by all, and I even think the parents had more fun then the kids.

Since pictures tell a thousand words, I'll keep Saturday's synopsis shorter. With a 36 hour layover between games (crazy, right?), we decided to take the boys tubing at McIntyre Ski Area. 2 hours of tubing, splashing in the pool, knee hockey, and autographs, lead the boys ready to eat a little pregame meal back at the hotel before their second game late that night. The game against the Conquistadors was tight. A very hard fought, back and forth game, but we came up just short of a tie with about two minutes left for a 3-2 loss.
You may be wondering what the autographs pictures or comment above was all about . We weren't the only hockey team staying in our hotel, The Ice Caps, an AHL affiliate of the Winnipeg Jets were guests as well. They were in Manchester for a two game series against the Monarchs. The boys got to meet a few of the players, ask questions, and have the players sign some autographs. However, I think Coach Kevin was the most excited since he got to talk video with one of their coaches, as were using XOS Digital video. This is the company coach works for and we use the same video software as they do. How cool is that?
We are so proud of our boys and so excited to see whats next. Until, I get the call again- GO TERRIERS!

Lastly, Sunday was the day that was going to determine it all. The first game was an early riser, the boys kept it close against the top team in the tournament, but couldn't find the back of the net against a strong goaltender of the Northern Cyclones. They lost 2-0. In between games, we went to a recommended restaurant...the Puritan Backroom. They are known for their chicken fingers, and what 13 yr old will turn down chicken fingers? Our waitress Tammy rocked it. She and the staff served 32 hungry people full meals and service with a smile all in an hour and a half and flawlessly. I would recommend taking your team there anytime. They were awesome! The game that made us proud to be Terriers, ends up being their last game of the tournament by a half point. The boys came out with a "bee under their bonnet" as the infamous Jack Edwards always say. They skated hard against the Casco Bay Mariners, and put two in the first period. The second period was even better! The boys put three more in, to get their goalie yanked and have a nice cushion. They kept the intensity going, and finished the game strong for a win of 6-1. Despite their valiant efforts, the fell just short of making it into the medal rounds.
